I am not an expert in the field of psychology (hopefully I am not sitting next to the summit's cross of "Mount Stupid"), so please correct me if I am wrong. The Dunning-Kruger Effect describes that this effect is present in the generel public. But why exactly? Could it be that science, technologies and the digitalisation are developing with such a high velocity that people with less access to higher education are felt "left behind"?
" [...] Hortez believes that combating these types of movements, in particular the antivaccination one, requires communicating better with the public. [...]"
I also tried to give as much public outreach presentations as possible when I worked in academia. But did it help? Are "ignorant" people willing to educate themselves and attend presentations or educational programs? In my case, people joined the presentations, or atteneded "Open University" or "Open Museum" days who already had an intrinsic motivation and emthusim for science.
Hopefully I am wrong.
